At around 11:30 pm, while recording cosplayers at Shibuya Halloween on October 31st, 2023, I suddenly heard the roaring approach of a group of motorcyclists. As a street photographer, my instincts kicked in, and I immediately aimed my camera in their direction. Unfortunately, as the bikers reached an intersection, one of them accelerated abruptly and collided with a stationary taxi positioned in front of them. It was unclear whether the biker intentionally attempted a wheelie or accidentally mishandled the throttle, causing the motorcycle to accelerate and briefly hover.
With its front tire in the air, the motorcycle reached a height that allowed it to shatter the rear window and damage the entire back of the taxi upon impact. Astonishingly, despite the taxi being occupied by several passengers, including the driver, no one sustained injuries. The only individual affected by the accident was the motorcyclist, who experienced non-life-threatening injuries.
The motorcyclists were conversing in a language that was not Japanese, which emphasized the diverse and international nature of the event, highlighting that they might not have been local residents.
This incident serves as a stark reminder that accidents can occur, particularly when people are caught up in the excitement of showcasing their vehicles. It's essential to stay mindful of your surroundings. Fortunately, in this instance, the motorcycle narrowly missed colliding with pedestrians. This is my second time witnessing a car accident within this month at Shibuya, and it's becoming increasingly concerning. These incidents are undeniably very dangerous.
I am sharing this footage to provide Shibuya police with additional context, as they have requested that I submit this footage.
